Alternative treatments for infertility

November 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

Life is funny. We are currently doing acupuncture treatments to help me ovulate and hopefully conceive another baby.Things could have easily turned out differently. If taking clomid had worked or we hadn’t conceived Jack when we did in early October 2006, we would probably be doing fertility treatments through a doctor. (we were going to start the clomid for the last time before doing an IUI with shots in October)

But we aren’t. I wonder if the acupuncture hadn’t “worked” if I would say that alternative treatments are a waste of time. Which is basically what my RE (ie fertility doc) said. Our experience with alternative medicine and subsequently conceiving Jack has fundamentally altered my perception of medicine.

I now believe that any chronic condition (including my anovulation) is worth trying to heal through alternative treatments. Towards that end, here are some great links about alternative fertility treatments.

Language Explosion

Jack has decided to start talking.  In the past day he has said several new words “ish” (fish) “moooo” (moo)  “pees” (Please) “bat” (bath) “huh” “ney” (honey).  He had always said words- once or twice but now he is using them more regularly– when eating he has been saying “pees” “pees” “pees”

Here is a video of him saying ‘MOO’ to the cow on the yogurt container.

Here are some pictures of Jack and Matt and  the Children’s Museum of Richmond We had a great time walking around and exploring.  One of his favorite areas was the water table that represents the James River.  He loved getting his hands wet and playing with the toys and boats.

Wrecked

 Wrecked Volvo

This post has been very difficult for me to write.  On Sunday we were driving on I-64 and I swerved to avoid some debris in the road. Jack, Matt and I were in the car.  The car started fishtailing and crashed into the guard rail and spun around.  We ended up on the shoulder of the road facing the wrong way. It was really really scary.  The car is obviously totaled. I have been terrified to drive because I realize that you can’t control the other crazy people out there or what might be in your path.  We are thinking about only having 1 car for a while.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a good family car that we could get?

Shameless Plug

After listening one to many times to our ABC Singalong that Jack loves I decided I was ready for some real music. Enter Putumayo Kids.

Putumayo World Playground CD

Putumayo World Playground CD

I have been loving this Putumayo kids CD. We were looking for some kids music besides Raffi and the ABC Singalong which was about to drive me batty.I love this one. The music is upbeat and fun. Jack loves dancing to it. I love doing housework, generally anything with the CD. The ABC Singalong really is cute and is set to familiar nursery rhyme type tunes but is just a little too nauseating for constant listening.  By contrast the Putumayo Kids CDs (we have World and Latin Playground) feel like real music. What music do you or your kiddies enjoy?

Jack’s New Toys

November 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have decided that children do not need toys.  Actually, I think they would prefer not to have any toys.  They would rather forage for objects/plants/paper around the house. Case in point: Jack. Here is Jack’s review of

Favorite objects….

Key chain — love to chew on the keys. Sharp jagged edges are great for pushing teeth through.  Love to chew on the Plastic cards from CVS, Ukrops, etc.  Fun to Jingle.

Clock/Radio — perfect for pushing and turning buttons. It makes Music!  I can turn the volume up and down!  And set the alarm to three in the morning.

Pots- LOVE the pot lids. Love to walk around with  pot lids.  Love to bang on the pots.  Love to move the pots around the kitchen.

Wooden Spoon– See Pots.  Love to bang on pots.

Outside– Love to be outside in general.  Love to jump up and down on acorns. Throwing leaves is also fun.  Also love to throw self down any hill or hill-like structure

Vacuum Cleaner– Love  to ride on vacuum cleaner. Is infinitely preferable to any riding toys.

Laundry– Is  the best. Love especially to throw clean folded laundry into a big pile.

Diswasher— Love to help mom empty the dishwasher by climbing on the open diswasher and flinging contents on the floor.

Stairs– Love to climb stairs.  Enough said.

Boxes of any variety and shape– Love too put things, keys, cups, etc into and out of boxes.

Dustpan/broom– love to sweep and walk around with dustpan in hand

Phone– Like to put phone or any rectangular object to ear and talk into it.

Measuring cups and spoons– Perfect for banging and moving/hiding around the house.

Wallet– Love to get all of Mom’s credit cards and cash and empty onto floor.

Diaper Bag– Love to empty diaper bag

Shoes–  Love to put on anyone’s shoes…

The list could go on and on– why would I ever buy toys?

What do your children like to play with besides their toys? Or what was your favorite non-toy object to play with as a child.

Gratuitious Pictures of Jack

November 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Jack has decided recently that he doesn’t like veggies unless they are baby food pureed.  (edited to add– or sugar snap peas. He ate about 10 of them tonight at dinner)  He will not eat ones that I have pureed. He will only eat the ones that have been canned and open with a satisfying pop.  Recently we attempted to trick him by pouring some peas into a baby food jar.  But he was not to be fooled. What follow is a sequence of Matt demonstrating to Jack that these are Gerber veggies, his refusal, and then laughing at his silly parents for thinking a one year old would be so gullible.  I can’t wait to hear what he has to say when he can talk!

NO! That is fake baby food. I only eat Gerber!

Um, That's more like-- The real thing. My favorite squash.

My Friday

November 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My attempt to blog every day has resulted in some rather interesting posts. Take today for instance.   I have several really interesting ideas, but it is 11:30 and my body is calling for the bed. So instead of downloading some cute pictures of Jack or the delicious dinner we had tonight– I’ll give you a very short recap of my day.

First, I am so grateful that Matt is back. After being gone for four days. I do not properly appreciate my amazing and sweet husband.  He got up with Jack  this am at around 7 and gave me a little more sleep.  Then I puttered around with Jack and put him down at nine. I puttered around without Jack during his nap and also did my Yoga for Fertility DVD (at least almost all of it until Jack woke me up before I got to my most favorite part which is of course the relaxation bit).  Then I got inspired to make a stir fry with some of the giant mushrooms I bought at the Asian Tan-A Market at the behest of John Kang my acupuncturist because of my “damp  heat”  So I made a yummy stir fry.  WIth brown rice for lunch. Jack ate none of the mushrooms or veggies and only the brown rice. By fistful..  Then more puttering by both of us. Then Jack goes down for a nap and I do some faxing and other business.  THen– I’ll finish tomorrow– bed is calling

In case you were wondering

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  After reading  yesterday about Obama’s faith, today I found a site the details all the reports that show why Obama might be the anti-christ. Do  you think Obama is the anti-christ? Do you even believe in the the anti-christ?

Interesting Obama interview about Religion and Beliefs

November 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After the election I wanted to learn more about our President Elect.  Here is an interesting interview from 2004 that he gave about his personal beliefs. I had seen excerpts from it before but never the complete interview.   I found his views very interesting. But I am not sure what he meant by everything he said. They could be construed to say that he is a pluralist or that he is a Christian with universalist leanings.  I did like that the political figures he looks up to are Ghandi and Martin Luther King jr.  Both of those men were true servants and peacemakers.  Did anyone have any other thoughts from what I found to be a fascinating interview?

A friend with ALS

November 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My parents in Dalton GA have a friend named Danny Dantzler. He has been diagnosed with ALS (better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Because he can no longer talk he has started a blog. Here is the link to it. I know he would appreciate your viewing his blog and any comments you have for him. I’ve linked you to the post that describes some of his journey. He is a very outspoken Christian and often likes to give meditations to hymns he has been reading.
